Abstract: Biofilms have found wide applications as an effectivewastewater treatment method in industries. Formation, structure and dynamicproperties of biofilm play an important role in the effective performance ofbiofilm wastewater treatment reactors. This paper outlines the presentstatus of theoretical research on biofilm dynamics and experimentaldevelopments in the past decades. Future perspectives areproposed.
