Abstract:Hydrodynamics theory was originally developed Newtonian fluids. The theory combines mass, energy, moment, entropy flow and dissipation flows in Onsager relations. As an extension to granular materials, granular solid hydrodynamics(GSH) constructs a thermodynamics function and a series of transport coefficients for irreversible processes in granular matter. In this paper, GSH is used to analyze mechanical properties of dry sands under triaxial compressions. The stress-strain relations and volumetric strain-axial strain relations are obtained, which are of great engineering concerns. The evolution of granular temperature is studied as well.
